Guyhirn C of E Primary School

Special Education Needs

At Guyhirn school we value every child and the contributions they make to our school community.  We place inclusion high on our agenda and strive to ensure that every child feels safe, confident, positive and that they can achieve.

Sometimes a child will need additional support to ensure they do not fall behind their peers.  We do this through additional booster work or by placing the child on an Individual Education Plan (IEP).  The IEP targets a child’s identified need, e.g. Literacy skills, and ensures strategies are in place to support further progress.  Children experiencing this additional work often make significant progress and gain the self confidence to work independently.

OFSTED COMMENT.

We also identify children who are able, gifted or talented in a curriculum area.  These children also receive additional booster support through an Individual Personal Programme (IPP).  This is very similar to an IEP in that it accelerates a child’s learning and progress.

If you would like more information on Inclusion please read our policies, speak to the Inclusion Leader – Miss R Shuttleworth or the Head teacher – Mrs J Sands.
