EYFS

  • The main principles on which the EYFS is based are grouped into four main themes:
  • A Unique Child – every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
  • Positive Relationships – Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships. Enabling Environments – Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners, parents and carers.
  • Learning & Development – Children develop and learn in different ways. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision including children with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • There are three prime areas and four specific areas of Learning & Development:
  • Prime Areas: Personal, Social & Emotional Development, Communication & Language and Physical Development Personal, Social & Emotional Development. Children need to be secure in these areas to support their learning in the specific areas.
  • Specific Areas: Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts & Design.

The Children learn through play and planned learning activities.  The children are observed during their exploring/learning and these are recorded on Tapestry, an online learning platform which shares these observations with parents. Parents also have the opportunity to share their their own observations and comment on the observations from school to develop the vital parent/school partnership.
